FRENCH Postal authorities are
also making their plans for next year's centenary. The town already holds the record for the number of postcards sent from French cities. Next year, special machines will be set up which will put a special local postmark on the cards and also affix special postage stamps issued by the Vatican for the Centenary.
Various onicials are now estimating the number of pilgrims expected next year as anything between seven and 10 million. Railway and airline systems plan to double and triple their services to and away from the shrine to handle the great volume of traffic.
In spite of extensive additions to hotels. and new hotels being built, all the pilgrims will not be able to stay in Lourdes. Camps and hostels outside the town will care
for the overflow. Buses will carry people to and from the shrine daily.
