FR. HUGH McNEILL, parish priest of the Sacred Heart and English Martyrs, Thornley. Co. Durham. commented at the Diocesan half-yearly meeting of the Durham District Council of the C.Y.M.S., at Thornley Men's Club last Sunday. that in their rule book they would see that personal sanctification is one of their aims, and around this everything centres.
The Diocesan chaplain. Fr. R. McLaughlan referred to the Pope's directive regarding films, radio and television. So many points and opinions are being put forward by all sorts of people, said Fr. McLauchlan, and there are those listeners and viewers who are apt to be impressed by the people and are prepared to accept what they say as being true and sound. There is a tremendous amount of materialism being put over which is detrimental to all religion. There arc things which thp good Catholic could see are false but unfortunately there is the poor, indifferent CatholiC, and the nonCatholic who might take a different view. People's faith is being weakened by the constant drumming in of " facts" of life from a purely materialistic angle.
