For obvious reasons no publicity has been given in this country to an appeal of the " Supreme

Committee for Liberation of Lithuania," dated July 10.

The appeal, issued via Stockholm,

reads: " Supreme Committee for Lithuania's Liberation informs us that Lithuania is on the edge of a precipice as another Red invasion means extermination of our notion. In Surial all Lithuanians have been massacred. the Committee entreats International aid to save the Lithuanian nations."

Svyriai or Svir lics some 40 miles north-east of Vilna. The Supreme Committee is a secret body, representing all parties and patriotic organisations which lead Lithuania's underground movement against Germany.

Readers of this newspaper have not been encouraged to give sioo ready credence to stories of mass massacies during the war, and such a story as this requires further confirmation which may not be available until after the war. It reaches us, however, from sources sufficiently serious to warrant its being reported at a time when members of the Lithuanian Republican Ciovernment (Russia's puppet Government) are leaving Moscow to undertake the Russian " liberation " of Lithuania.
