I.ATOUGH life, but the happiest on earth", was how Bishop Grasar of Shrewsbury de

scribed the priesthood, last week. 220 Manchester Grammar shool boys who live on the giant Wythenshaw housing estate, The Bishop was addressing a vocations meeting sponsored by the North Cheshire Serra Club. at St. Columba's Secondary Modern School in Manchester. It was the first time the boys had met the Bishop.

He told them of the desperate shortage of priests. both in his own diocese. and all over the world, particularly in South America, and added that the late Pope had such a great influence "because he was first and foremost a good priest".

The Bishop also told his audience that the fact that a boy decided on the priesthood did not mean that he was a pansy. "He must be a normal, balanced boy. and very cheerful, otherwise the sacrifice would get him down".
