Town invites bishop to its pageant

Catholic Herald Reporter

BISHOP PARKER of Northampton has been invited as a guest of honour to the Dunstable Town Pageant which a cast of a thousand will present from Monday to Saturday (tune 24-29) in the meadow beside Dunstable's priory church of Si. Peter's.

The pageant, telling the history of Dunstable from the days of St. Augustine's coming to the present time, will open on Monday in the presence of the Duchess of Gloucester. Bishop Parker will attend on Tuesday night with other church leaders.

The pageant marks the 750th anniversary of Dunstable's priory church, founded by Augustinians but now Anglican. It was in this church that a Royal Commission made the announcement that Catherine of Aragon was no longer Queen of England.

The script of the pageant has the approval of all the Churches.

Stands seating nearly 2,000 nightly have been put up, 1.000 under cover.
