Vatican Council rally cancelled

Di RADFORD'S marathon rally in honour of the Vatican Council is off.

It was to have been held this Sunday (23rd), with Archbishop Heenan of Liverpool celebrating Pontifical High Mass for some 30,000 on Bradford Park Avenue Football ground. But a statement this week says it would not be appropriate now in view of Pope John's death.

Parties were coming not only from the Leeds diocese hut from Liverpool and Salford also. Ten thousand brochures and 15,000 hymn sheets had already been printed.

Papal medal

Mr. A. J. Maurice, a member of St. Anselm's parish, Tooting Bee. for 51 years, has been awarded the Papal Bene Merenti medal for his services to the parish. Mr. Maurice is one of the leading parishioners in the organisation of the parish football pool. which aims to raise money to build a new primary school.
