MR, ST. JOHN-STEVAS -LTA-seems bent on increasing . my doubts about his case. He insists on personalising his arguments and seeks refuge behind a show of righteous indignation — a habit which is unrealistic and unconvincing.
He advises me (March 14) to read Hansard, as if this settled the matter, Curiously the reference has a boomerang effect on himself because it was by my reading of Hansard. Vol. 774, No. 24, that I first learned of the mysterious absence of the Catholic M.P.s from the debate on the underdeveloped countries.
My point has been made, and for this I thank the Editor. Consequently I shall not prolong this discussion except to say that your correspondent must try to refrain from acting as a polymath. The polymath has been an extinct species for a century.
