National Anthems
. It is true that our National Anthem badly needs a new verse, but I doubt very much if I should accept any of those submitted to me in this competition as worthy of perpetuation.
I know that I enjoyed the entry of " Junius ": Pity our puppet King Dangling on Finance's string, Poor little King.
He's got a thankless job, Watching Big Business rob His poor people (sob), Poor little King.
But its scansion is horrid and, seriously, it just won't do!
So I think the prize must go to A. Sandwell, 253 Ribbleton Lane, Preston, whose sentiments are more orthodox and whose expression more sound : Grant him Thy grace, 0 Lord, Ever in deed and word To do Thy Will.
May he in length of days, Lead us in peaceful ways, Hear Thou this prayer we raise— God save the King.
