Then the water buffaloes began eating the Parish Priest's porch

Clearly not Surbiton. Or even Sunderland. Java in Indonesia. CAFOD Project Indonesia 33. A place called Kawunganten.

CAFOD was asked to put up a grant towards a model farm at a junior secondary school there. It was to give courses in growing rice, animal husbandry, fish farming and cultivating vegetables to 80 or more students a year.

Because you keep saying yes to CAFOD, CAFOD could say yes to them. Only two people in a hundred are Catholics in this overwhelmingly Muslim community but they do have a diocesan development agency called Yayasan Sosial Bina Sejahtera through which the CAFOD aid is routed. Partnership with local churches is a CAFOD aim everywhere.

One of the things the school has done is to build an animal shed Perhaps this wasn't a bad idea since two water buffalo left in the care of the parish priest and tethered outside his bedroom window began to eat the porch!

But you saved more than a porch when you gave CAFOD the 'means to help this school. Many who cannot attend will imitate the example of the students and the benefits will spread through the countryside. Meantime the sale of produce should make the school self-supporting by its second year.
