FAIR AIDS NEW TOWN

A"SUMMER FAYRE" was opened in Washington, Co. Durham, last week by Bishop Cunningham of Hexham and Newcastle to raise funds for Catholic building projects in nearby New Washington. This town, founded some years ago on the main Newcastle-Sunderland road. has now outgrown its parent town. Projects scheduled for New Washington include a new church, a new primary school and a new four-stream secondary Modern school. It is estimated that the town's population will have increased by 50.000 by 1974, and the area has been earmarked for considerable industrial development.
