Loss for new Exarchate
Mgr. Alexander Malynowskyj, who only last week assisted as one of the ministers at the Mass for the installation of Archbishop Godfrey as first Exarch for the Ukrainians of the Byzantine-Ukrainian Rite in England and Wales, died on Tuesday, aged 71. At the ceremony it had been noticed that his health was failing.
Mgr. Malynowskyj was VicarGeneral of the newly erected Exarchate. and since 1949 he had been Vicar-General in this country to Archbishop Buchko, Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainians in western Europe.
He was born at Zukiw in western Ukraine and was ordained in 1927. For many years he ministered in his own country, and then in 1947, during the Russian occupation, the resistance movement helped him to escape. Mgr. Malynowskyj went first to Germany before coming to London.
