ITV hides cross from soap opera wedding scene

rry SOAP opera Coronation Street has hidden a cross from a church wedding scene to avoid offending viewers. Viewers watching the wedding of characters Tyrone Dobbs and Molly Compton, filmed at St Mary's in Nether Alderley, Cheshire, never saw the brass cross , which was obscured behind a candelabra and artificial flowers.

The production team had asked to take it down, a request that the Rev James Milnes found "bizarre", but it is fixed in place.

Writing in his.parish magazine, Mr Milnes, 29, said: "How can people think it offensive to see a cross in a chtuuh, in the same way as you would normally see the Koran in a mosque or the Torah in a synagogue? That is the emblem of this faith."
