Priest celebrates Ruby Jubilee of his ordination

A PRIEST from WestonSuper-Mare, Somerset, celebrated his Ruby Jubilee of ordination on March 13.

Mgr Canon Gabriel Leyden, parish priest of Corpus Christi, was ordained in 1967 at Glenstal Benedictine Abbey in County Limerick, Ireland.

He said: "A Ruby Jubilee is an occasion for thanksgiving for the gift of priesthood and for the privilege of working with so many wonderful people. The help, support and friendship of ordinary people make the priesthood a fulfilling and happy life."

To mark the anniversary, Mgr Leyden's parish pastoral council organised a Mass of Thanksgiving concelebrated by Bishop Declan Lang of Clifton.
