Quebec murder `degrading' says Vatican

THE murder of Mr. Pierre Laporte. the Labour Minister of Quebec. was condemned by the Vatican on Monday as "a degrading episode which offends the human and Christian conscience." The statement was published in Monday's issue of L'Osservatore Romano.

It said: "Blackmail carried to the extreme consequences of the crime is a flagrant violation of human liberty and of the rights of people. . . . No cause can justify such methods."
