Italian ACTU Praised By The Pope

The Pope, in a letter published last week, praised the Italian Christian Workers' Association for its aid in creating new, independent and anti Communist trade unions.

Written on the occasion of the Association's annual meeting in Rome, it described the Association as " a fertile cell of the modern Christian apostolate ".

"If on one hand". the letter continued, " Catholic Action attends principally to keeping its members in strict adherence to the Church and on the other hand the unions aim at the defence of the economic and professional interests of the working classes, then the Association can take upon itself the great duty of regrouping every category of worker, to revive and reinforce them."
