DOM VICTOR FARWELL'S re-election as Abbot of Worth last Friday was followed almost immediately by the sudden and tragic death of one of his most active monks.

Dom Fabian Glencross, 53, a member of the abbey's Peru community, had returned to Worth for the abbatial election, With other priests serving in Peru he met the abbot on Saturday for discussions on the future of the Lima monastery.

Dom Fabian was due to take Over as superior next November in succession to Dom Edward Cruise. During the meeting, he collapsed and was taken to hospital where he died the next day.

Dom Edward described him as "a much loved member of our community, who died in the prime of life".

Dom Fabian was sent to Peru in 1975 at the time the abbey was setting'. up a parish among the poor of Lima. Hismain work was the founding of a lay community for potential Peruvian vocations to the monastery.
