Bribes against the Bishops

PRAGUE.

Josef Plihal, the Czech Deputy Minister for Church Affairs, handed a cheque for 5,000,000 crowns (about £35,000) to a Government representative said to be acting on behalf of the Archdiocese of Prague on Monday last as " advance payment for the Church budget." " This is another defeat for the Church hierarchy that opposed the new Church laws," he declared. " No Church must suffer when some of its reactionary officials, even though they he high dignitaries, commit anti-State actions and incite disobedience of our laws."
