NO CHEERS IN ST. PETER'S

Request for Passion Sunday ceremony

The thousands of people who will join the Holy Father at the special Passion Sunday ceremony in St. Peter's have been asked not to cheer when His Holiness — accompanied by all the Cardinals and Bishops resident in Rome — enters the basilica.

Mgr. Dante, Prefect of Pontifical Ceremonies, has requested them instead to join with the choir in singing the Magnificat.

The Holy Father, after praying before the Blessed Sacrament, will venerate the famous crucifix usually kept in the Church of St. Marcellus, which is to he taken to St. Petty's in solemn procession tomorrow (Saturday).

The ceremony will end with the blessing given with the relics of Our Lord's Passion.
