honour for Herald director

Two new Papal Knighthoods are to be conferred next month.

Mr Otto Herschan, Managing Director of the Catholic Herald Ltd, and Sir Julian Hodge. the South Wales merchant banker were designated for the knighthoods before Pope Paul died.

Mr Herschan joined the Catholic Herald 25 years ago and became the Managing Director in 1960. He is also Managing Director of the Scottish Catholic Observer and is a former Chairman of the KEYS, Catholic Writers Guild. Sir Julian receives the honour in recognition of his financial support for charities through charitable foundations he set up in 1962 and 1964. He has also given his support to the Cardiff Nazareth House project to build a new children's home. this year.

Both men will become Knights of the Order of St Gregory the Great.
