Pope's tribute to India

Keywords: Religion / Belief

Pope Paul received in audience 107 newly ordained missionary priests, nearly all of them Italians, last week, and told them of the humble and daring, open and unselfish, self-sacrificing and fervorous zeal he found among rnissioners in India.

The Pope told the new priests, who come from various missionary colleges in Rome, that he had been edified during his visit to Bombay by the zeal of missionaries who, in contact with an ancient civilisation of a high spiritual and cultural level, were making themselves all things to all men to win all to Christ.

He asked them to be worthy of the Church's confidence and urged them in the words of St. Paul: "Let us conduct ourselves in all circumstances as God's Ministers . . . in chastity, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unaffected love, in the word of truth, in the power of God , . ."
