A report, emanating from a French newsagency, that the English Government would close the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Grotto of the Nativity at Jerusalem, in April if the sum of about £150,000 for necessary repairs were not meanwhile raised, is denied by the Colonial Office.
It is stated by the Colonial Office, that though a commission has reported on the necessity of repairs at these Holy Places, no date Emit has been fixed for the carrying out of the repairs.
