THE ARCHBISHOPBISHOP A Jubilee Honour for Mgr. Amigo

On the occasion of the golden jubilee of the Bishop of Southwark, the Sovereign Pontiff has conferred upon his Lordship

the dignity of Archbishop, with the style Archbishop-Bishop of Southwark. Following is the letter from His Holiness which is being read today, the jubilee anniversary, by the Bishop of Pella, as Provost of the Southwark Chapter, at the Pontifical Mass of thanksgiving in St. George's Cathedral.

POPE PIUS XI.

To Our Venerable Brother, Peter Emmanuel Amigo, Archbishop-Bishop of Southwark, Asaietant at Our Throne.

The joyful celebration of the Golden Jubilee of your ordination to the Priesthood affords Cs the happy opportunity of offering you a ciiti ic mark of Our fatherly esteem and love. For We know well the zeal and diligence with which you, have carried out your paatoral duties over so tong a period, and the eagerness and enthusiasm with which you devote yourself to the good of the faithful. We co/igniteLate you, therefore, Venerable Brother, with all Our heart on this sacred and blessed anniversary that brings joy to all your people, and We earnestly pray. that God may grant you the fullest enjoyment of this day and of your sacred ministry, and also the happiness of 8eoing the daily increase of the flock committed to your care.

In order that Oar share in this day's celebration inay he more manifest. We are plerised to eonfer upon you who have deserved so well of Chureli and Civil Society, the dignity oe Aroihishop, so that endowed with this sacred honour and dignity, you may by the help of God's greee in the exercise of your pastoral office earn more fully the fruits of aalvation. Furthermore We gladly grant you the faculty of imparting in Our Name and by Our Authority to those present at the Pontifical Mass Our Blessing and a plenary indulgence in the customary form of the (lbureh.

As a pledge of heavenly gifts and as a mark of Our special affection. Venerable Brother. We lovingly grant in you. to your clergy, and to the faithful eommitted to your care, the Apostolic Blessing.

Given at Rome. at St. Peters, on the 12th day of the month of February in the year 1935 and in the seventeenth year of Our Pontificate.

POPE PITTS XI.

The Archbishop has received from the Pope one of the large candles presented to His Holiness on Purification Day. This candle will be placed in the Cathedral and lighted, today, at the Jubilee Mass. This evening, at eight o'clock, Mgr. Amigo is holding an Open Reception, at which all Catholics will be welcome, in the Princes Hall (Lambeth Baths), Kennington Road, S.E.
