Vienna Cardinal thanks British

for £1,812 gift

Cardinal innitzer. Archbishop of Vienna, has written to Cardinal Griffin to thank him for the " magnanimous gift " of £1,812 5s. 6d. from the Catholics of this country for the restoration of St. Stephen's Cathedral.

The gift is the result of an appeal made by 'Cardinal Griffin last year. It was presented recently by the British Minister in Vienna.

Cardinal Innitzer writes: " I beg Your Eminence to he kind enough to transmit to the English Catholics, and especially to the English soldiers who spent some time in Vienna after the war, the heartfelt thanks of the Archbishop Ind the Catholic population of Vienna.

" In this generosity of the English Catholics I sec a sign of deep union in the one Catholic Church.

" The re-established venerable Cathedral of St. Stephen's will tell future generations also about the spirit of solidarity and the readiness to help of English Catholics."
