From Mr Darren M Collins SIR I was somewhat taken aback by your report (July 18) on Nelson Mandela's admiration for Catholic social teaching, I thought it a great shame his admiration for Catholic social teaching was not more evident.
When the military wing of the ANC. under his command, was deliberately targeting the South African civilian population in order to bring down the. admittedly evil, government he should possibly have recalled Catholic Just War doctrine. • Not only this but while Mr Mandela was President of South Africa his government approved one of the world's most liberal abortion laws and denied a free vote to ANC legislators.
Mr Mandela has on his hands the blood of more half a million dead South African babies for his conscious and willing abdication of governmental responsibility to protect its citizens, and in actively promoting abortion.
Yours faithfully, DARREN COI I ANS Oxford
