Gallop (Cambridge, 15s.), Portugal's Catholicism is often only just baptised paganism. Her holy days and celebrations are a colourful farrago of nonsense, superstition, high spirits and religious sincerity, and Mr. Rodney Gallop describes them and the folklore, song and dance of the county with fascinating detail. Portugal should be grateful for an extensive ethnographical study which is an argosy of entertainment and interest.
