ALL SPAIN KNOWS OF ENGLISH ALTAR FOR MADRID

We have received the following letter, written in English, from the National Secretary of the Delegation on Religious Matters in Burgos, thanking the Catholics of England who subscribed to the Catholic Herald fund for building an altar in Madrid in honour of English Martyrs:

March 18. Dear Sir,

We are informed of the really great success obtained with the subscription opened by your newspaper for the building of an altar in Madrid.

This beautiful gesture of your good selves and of Catholic England has extremely affected us and we want to state very loudly our gratitude to our English Catholic brothers. In these days of great national sufferings, it has been for us a consolation to be assisted by our brothers in the great Catholic family.

Not all the Catholics of the world have understood the heroic courage of Spain, who has preferred her sons to fight and

die rather than accept the destruction of religion. Catholic England has understood us and has done her best so that the altar of her glorious Martyrs accompanies in Madrid the great feast of the triumph of Christ, King in Spain. In the same way as the English Martyrs died so today are many Catholics giving their lives in Spain, for Christ and His Church.

It is for this that we congratulate you now, and your newspaper, too, and all the persons having contributed to this subscription, and all English Catholics, for the donation of the altar, and for its consecration to the Martyrs.

The whole of Spain knows now this beautiful gesture of yours, and through this National Delegation of Religious Matters sends you her heartiest gratefulness.

I beg to remain, dear Sir, Most faithfully yours,

FELIX Mozo.
