RHEIMS CATHEDRAL The Fabric Restored

Next October, all being well, a solemn ceremony of rejoicing will mark the corns pleted restoration of Rheims Cathedral after its serious damage in the tragedy of the Great War.

It was on May 11, 1927, that M. Herriot, at that time Minister of Public Instruction, handed over, at a formal function, the key of the Cathedral to Cardinal Lucon, and the clergy then took possession of that part of the building already restored.

Since then, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Rockfeller and many other benefactors, work has steadily proceeded for the further restoration, particularly at the eastern end of the cathedral. The apse and chapels, the choir, sanctuary, and sacristies have all been restored, and now the restoration of the Blessed Sacrament chapel and the high altar is all but finished.
