)RINTED in France and trans
lated from the French this tautiful book is as good a general troduction to the history of iristian Art as I have ever seen. any of the most famous paintgs. etchings, drawings and sculpres in the world have been totographed and gathered here: th century mosaics, 20th century 3uault; sculptures from England id France: drawings from Remandt. Raphael and Michelangelo: assian icons, the best of Fra agelico. The colouring is perb. And the text? At first tht the large print indicates that is a child's book. It is a child's .ok in that almost anyone want; to look at beautiful pictures of Christian story and cnjoy them ll certainly do so with case and mderment-down to the age of out nine. But it is not childish the text is descriptive, puts the bjects of the pictures in the setg contemporary with the artist; th the aid of the narrator you t the Nativity through Italian. Itch and English eyes; the ucifixion through those of Tin-etto and Matisse. A book of iristian beauty, a book to asure.
