HITLER AND THE GERMAN PEOPLE

What the German Freedom Party Thinks About It

From Our German Correspondent.

Dr. Goebbels has made a vigorous attack on the German " intellectuals" who are said to have been full of fear and defeatist feelings during the September crisis.

Dr. Goebbels is referring to that secret political opposition which the Nazis are finding difficult to check.

Secret Organisation

The German Freedom Party, for instance, a secret organisation of antiNazis, managed recently to distribute a large number of copies of a pamphlet commenting on the Munich settlement.

The pamphlet accuses the Western Democracies of giving to Hitler, under the threat of force what they had always refused to the German Republic, and said that by their action they had deliberately saved the Nazi regime when it was in serious danger.

" Hitierism Is Our Fault" " It is our duty," the pamphlet says, " to revolt against the idolatry of domination and violence which have been able to conquer the power in our Fatherland. Without our weakness and our cowardice there would be no Hitler. . . ."

The German Freedom Party is mainly composed of former Conservatives and members of the Centre (Catholic) Party.
