Homosexual couples should have the same rights to a Church blessing as heterosexuals, according to Dr Una Kroll, a prominent member of the Christian feminist movement.
Dr Kroll, who is best known for her outspoken support for women's ordination, was addressing a conference of the Gay Christian Movement in Leeds.
She said: "I cannot think that it is right for all heterosexual unions to be allowed a Church blessing while homosexual unions are excluded from such a blessing." In her view Christ did not have a special message from one section of the community that set them apart from everyone else.
Dr Kroll said that the first priority for the Church in reconsidering its attitude towards homosexuals must be to listen rather than talk.
