Westminster and the Sacred Heart

The last Pastoral of the late Cardinal, issued shortly before he died, contains a wish that his people should consecrate them. sell es to the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady. It adds the fact that the Archdiocese of Westminster is already consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Our Lord.

courtesy of the " Illustrated London News," takes us hack 70 years, showing Cardinal Manning, second Archbishop of Westminster. blessing in his temporary Cathedral of Our Lady of Victories, Kensington (now destroyed through enemy action), pilgrims about to depart for Paray-leMonial.

The Illustrated London News said :

" It was on Monday week, at seven in the evening, that a special service of religiotts worship took place at the Kensington ProCathedral, attended by thrce or four hundred of the pilgrims. amongst whom were fifty or sixty Roman Catholic Priests, or other clergy. and a large number of ladies. Each pilgrim wore a badge on the left breast, displaying a small red cross and heart on a white ground. The service was `performed by Archbishop Maiming."
