New bishop exhorts head teachers in Shrewsbury

BISHOP MARK DAVIES, new co-adjutor in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, paid a visit to the diocesan Association of Headteachers and Education Service Conference recently.

He took in part of a presentation entitled “Leadership true to the Gospel” by Peter Bray, a De La Salle Brother from New Zealand. The conference closed with Bishop Davies’s words of encouragement and blessing.

Brother Peter Bray is vice-chancellor of Bethlehem University in the Holy Land. He spoke of leadership in terms of change and transformation. He empha sised the importance of concrete example and influence in a true collaborative model. As St Francis of Assisi put it to his followers: “Preach the Gospel, if necessary use words.” The conference was said to be a “positively uplifting” event and delegates left enthused and inspired. Bethlehem University is the first university in Palestine and the only Catholic university in the Holy Land. It exists in the most difficult circumstances and relies heavily on its benefactors to survive. To find more about this Catholic “educational oasis” visit www.bethlehem.edu.
