Catholic ʻbeaten in jail for refusing to become Muslimʼ

A CATHOLIC prisoner at the high-security Long Lartin jail was beaten up for refusing to convert to Islam, a prison officer has claimed.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live’s Donal Macintyre show, the anonymous officer said that Muslim gangs had become so dominant they were able to enforce sharia law inside the prison. And he also said that younger prisoners were being forced to convert. Another prisoner, a Catholic, had been seriously assaulted after refusing to convert at the Category A prison in Worcestershire. It has been suggested that, according to inmates, Long Lartin is turning into an Americanstyle jail where people depend on gangs for protection.
