KOH ANNAN, the United Nations Secretary General, in Baghdad on Monday after signing the agreement with Saddam Hussein which defused the crisis over UN weapons inspections.
The Vatican hailed the accord and expressed hopes that it might lead to the eventual lifting of economic sanctions against Iraq, which have been acknowledged as causing suffering to ordinary people.
Fr Andrew Abouna, chaplain of the Chaldean rite, ministering to Catholic Iraqis in London, said: "It's a happy moment. Kofi Annan is a messenger from God to bring peace to our land. Our whole community in London is praying for him."
