A LE.ADEIG independent thinktank has called on the Government to tighten up migration procedures to prevent an influx of "Islamists" — whose ideology, it says, is behind many recent terrorist atrocities around the world.
Civitas has published a book called The West, Islam and Islamism in which authors Baroness Cox, of Christian Solidarity World
wide, and John Marks argued that militantly ideological versions of Islam were completely incompatible with the values that underpinned Western-style liberal democracies.
They insisted that a distinction must be drawn between mainstream Islam, and its largely peaceful adherents, who formed the majority, and the radical creed that attempts to justify revolutions and terrorism with religious terminology. They criticise Islamic sharia law because it requires inequalities between Muslims and all non Muslims as well as inequalities between men and women.
They also attacked the concept of "jihad" when meant as the subjugation of the entire world to Islam.
The book invites moderate Muslims to campaign against existing human rights abuses, such as slavery and persecution, wherever they occur in Muslim countries.
