UK support for US boycott

American union leader Cesar Chavez has won decisive support from British trade unionists for his international boycott of California grapes and lettuce. Mr Jack Jones, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union, confirmed at the same Press conference in London that his union is supporting the boycott launched by Mr Chavez, president of the United Farm Workers of America (UFWA).

By refusing to unload produce or move it to market, Mr Jones men can render the Chavez boycott effective in Britain.

The American labour leader George Meany, president of the AFL-CIO, announced on September 9 that he had asked unions in other nations to honour the Chavez boycott.
