End hunger, appeals Pope

IN A message decrying the persistence of global hunger, the Pope said multilateral cooperation, and not the desire to prevail, must govern international decisions on peace and development.

John Paul II said that hunger still endangered the lives of millions and people, at a time when the world enjoys unprecedented material and technological progress.

He made the remarks in a message sent to the Romebased International Fund for Agricultural Development, which was marking its 25th anniversary.

Among those worst affected were the refugee populations in various parts of the world, many of whom have fled situations of armed conflict or human rights abuse,
