Police seize protestors
AMERICAN police have arrested eight Catholics during an anti-war protest against military strikes against Iraq staged outside the White House.
Included amongst those detained were three workers from the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker community in Washington. They were named as Art Loftin, Colleen McCarthy and Kathy Boylan. All were taken to the United States Park Police operational facilities, processed and released, A March 27 court date was set for their case.
They were charged with holding a "demonstration in a restricted area", which carries a $50 fine. An official from the US Park Police said the zone was designated as a restricted area for security reasons. Citizens can be there, but have to keep moving, adding that the protestors were warned several times they would be arrested.
During the rally, several protestors expressed the importance of civil disobedience.
