From Andre Zaluski Sir, I wonder whether I am the only person becoming nauseated by the way the Church is being used as a vehicle for Downing Street spin whenever convenient. Who will forget the after-Mass photo opportunity splashed on all newspaper pages during the "Cheriegate" row. Now, again, in connection with the Vatican audience, we learn how the Prime Minister attends Mass and receives Holy Communion. 1 presume the rules on this have been "updated" since I received my basic R.I. in pre-war Poland.
There is spin about Mrs Blair being made a papal dame for her outstanding contribution to the Church. What contribution? If Mrs Blair wants to serve the Church she should explain to her husband how utterly at variance with the Church's teaching is his voting record and his government's policies on the unborn child.
Perhaps the Holy Father will have explained these matters to Mr Blair, speaking plainly, Polish style.
Yours faithfully, ANDRE ZALUSK1 Billingham TS23 2EW
