SOUTHWARK The Rev. Joseph Douch succeeds the late Canon Mahoney as parish priest of Deptford, and the Rev. Albert Wood, of Barnes, succeeds Fr. Douch as parish priest of Plumstead.
The Rev. Francis Ryan is going to Barnes as Rector in succession to Dr. Albert Wood. Fr. Ryan will be succeeded as curate at Streatham by the Rev. Thomas Hayes from Epsom.
The Rev. Louis Byrne, who has been absent on sick leave, will return to Cornwall Road for the Feast of Christ the King. Dr. Sewell, who has been in charge there during Fr. Byrne's absence, is taking over the new district at Selsdon.
The Rev. Charles Jones has been appointed Registrar for the Southwark Branch of the Deceased Clergy Association, the office having been resigned by Canon Francis Pritchard. Notices of the deaths of priests should in future he sent to Fr. Jones at 22, Red Cross Street, Borough, S.E.1.
Dr. Albert Wood, who leaves Barnes to become parish priest of Plumstead, was born in 1887. Educated for the priesthood at St. Augustine's House, Walworth, St. John's Seminary, Wonersh, and the English College, Rome. D.D. Ordained priest, 1914. Professor of Mathematics at St. John's Seminary from 1915 to 1923. Assistant priest at Woolwich, 1923 to 1925. Rector of Orpington, 1925 to 1929. Rector of Barnes, 1929 to 1938. Appointed to Plumstead to succeed the Rev. Joseph Douch, who becomes parish priest at Deptford.
