BIRMINGHAM
The progress of the Newman Association was reviewed in a meeting at Birmingham last weekend of representatives of the local Newman Circles in Great Britain. Almost every Circle had progress to report in the last twelve months. both in regard to membership and public activities.
Adult Education courses have been organised in connection with the Workers Educational Association or University Extension Boards at Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Bradford, Edinburgh and Glasgow; these courses have attracted audiences of both Catholics and Protestants.
Possibly the most striking progress in work actually in university circles is reported from Southampton and Exeter, in which places the Newman Circle has succeeded in arousing the interest of the nonCatholic staff of the two university colleges in the lectures and discussions they have organised.
The Newman Association is organising a pilgrimage to Rome in April, 1950-ten days for approximately £40, 17 days for £60. Inquiries and bookings should be sent to Frames lours Ltd., 25 Denmark Street. London, W.C.2.
