10 children built Northfleet church

ABOUT 50 members of the Tolburst family gathered on Sunday at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Northfleet. Kent, for the blessing by Bishop Cowderoy of a new reredos.

The church was built in memory of Alfred and Sarah Ann Tolhurst bs their 10 children. The sole survivor of the 10. Mr. Francis J. Tolhurst, was present at Sunday's ceremony. The next day he celebrated his 83rd birthday, The grandchildren have together given the new reredos-a sculptured wooden statue of Our Lady of the Assumption, on a stone base and surmounted by oak panelling. The reredos was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.

Bishop Cowderoy gave Benediction and afterwards met all those present. thanking personally the members of the Tolhurst family for their gift.
