MGR. CUSHING HELPS IRISH RURAL LIFE MOVEMENT

BOSTON.

Mgr. Richard Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, has contributed 5,000 dollars, about £1,800, to help Fr. John Hayes, of Bansha, Tipperary, in his fight to preserve Ireland by keeping its youth at home.

Fr. Hayes who founded the Irish rural life movement, Muintir na Tire, has been attending an international Rural Life Conference. He is lecturing on Bansha and its aims in the U.S.

The Archbishop pledged himself • to give at least 1,000 dollars (about £350) a month for five months and to act as representative of the movement in the United States.

I Fr. Hayes, who has been collect' ing funds from other U.S. sources for his movement, said that these funds would be used to pay I organisers in Ireland.
