Bishop congratulates future heads

BISHOP KEVIN DUNN of Hexham and Newcastle has commended three local teachers for completing a prestigious headship qualification.

Stephen Hammond (St Michael's RC Comprehensive School in Billingham, Cleveland), Moya Rooney (St Joseph's RC Primary School in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear) and Sylvia Sewell (Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Primary School in Horden, Co Durham) have all completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), a qualification that prepares senior teachers to become heads. Bishop Dunn said: "Head teachers have the opportunity to make a huge difference to the educational and spiritual lives of the young people in our local community... It's heartening to see that Stephen, Moya and Sylvia are keen to step up to the challenge of leading our schools in the future."
