Leader's promise

nR. Alfonso Cortinez, accepting his nomination as a candidate for the Presidency of Mexico in 1953-58, has promised absolute freedom in religious matters. insisting that the people must have freedom of the Press, opinion and belief.

He is the candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, at present in power. Between the two world wars a fierce persecution was waged against the Church in Mexico.
