Tim CAI-nous: community in Bagnor is celebrating 162 years of worship in the church of Our Lady, Pendref. As part of the commemorations, on September 22 Bishop Edward Regan will celebrate with the parishioners and rededicate the church ubder the patronage and title of "Our Lady and St James".

Care to act

FOLLOWING THE current World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (27-31 August), Christian Action Research and Education (Care) is to concentrate on child pornography laws and their enforcement. Among other aims, the charity is calling for possession and distribution of child pornography to be made illegal in all EU countries and an international law enforcement initiative on child pornography.

THE ST Ethelberis Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales) celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Conference Aggregation in 1946 earlier this month. Representatives from the Legion of Mary, shortly to celebrate their 75th anniversrsary, and the Knights of St Columba joined in the celebrations.

Disabled

THE CHARITY CREST is to hold a half-day debate entitled "The Christian Ministry of Healing: Do Disabled People Want It?" on September 7. School closures

LABOUR CHIEFS in Liverpool are to go ahead with plans to axe city schools. The closures a bid to remove 3,000 surplus places will include Bishop Goss RC School, Everton.

Gravestone

ARMED ROBBERS in Liverpool last week used a gravestone to smash a security screen during a post office raid.
