S15,—Speaking as a parish priest in a large English city, I think Mr de Blacam is obviously mistaken when he says the young people of Ireland do not want marriage.
At present they come over here and marry (in fact, come over here to marry) in large numbers; in a mediumsized non-central parish I am marrying such couples at the rate of one a week.
If they could marry in Ireland I feel sure they would. I have my theory as to why they cannot, but wild horses will not drag it from me! If the cause is one of the seven deadly sins, I fancy Mr de Blacam is chasing after the wrong one.
