SHOULDN'T THE article about Mother Angelica (9 May) give us cause for concern? We are told she directs "much of her venom" at certain nuns who disagree with her. When did Jesus advocate such action in the ministry of Love? He told us to be "Wise as serpents but Gentle as doves" (Matt 10:16). Some dove! Venom kills. It killed Our Lord.
He warned us that calling another a 'fool' in anger puts us in danger of 'hell fire' (Matt 5:22). One wonders what the possible penalty for calling someone a witch could be.
She says she is proud to be a Roman Catholic but St Paul (who was not) said our only boast should be in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ. (Gal 6:14). To be a Catholic is it necessary to spread haired and condemnation on each other? Didn't we do enough damage with the Crusades and the Inquisition? She will, of course, attract followers from the sanctimonious and the self-righteous. Just like Barrabas did. Sheila Kennally Leeds
HAD JOE JENICNS heard Mother Mary Angelica speak in London last year, he would never, I hope, have written of her "venom". No one is more gentle, kind, and charitable than this soft-spoken American nun. Clare Cotton
