POPE JOHN Paul did not send a wedding present to the Prince and Princess of Wales last week, but he did send a special message of goodwill to the future King and Queen.
For the first time a Cardinal took part in the Anglican ceremony for the royal couple; Cardinal Hume, representing the Catholics of England and Wales read a prayer during the service in St Paul's Dr Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury, as Anglican Primate of All England gave an address of a few minutes — he had announced his intention of keeping it short when plans for the wedding were published.
In his address, Dr Runcie said: "Our faith sees the wedding day not as the place of arrival but the place where the adventure begins.
