NEW CHURCH OPENED AT TOLWORTH

L AST week, on the Feast of the " Annunefation. the Catholics of ToIworth. Surrey, saw the fruits of nearly 25 years effort when Bishop Cowderoy of Southwark solemnly blessed and opened the new church of Our Lady Immaculate. Solemn High Mass followed. celebrated by Fr. E. J. Redding. the parish priest, who began the work of building the parish in 1934.

Among the congregation of well over 1,200 were the Mayor (Councillor R. L. Cutmore) and members of Surbiton Corporation. A brother and a nephew of the parish priest assisted at the Mass. and there were also present 20 priests from neighbouring districts.

The church, designed by Mr. Wilfred Mangan, has taken two years to build and has cost £60.000. of which £42.000 has been raised by the people of To!worth. The chief feature is the 8 ft. white marble statue of Our Lady over the west door.

Fr. Edmund Gunter. W.F., will preach at the annual National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis service at Corpus Christi, Maiden Lane, London, on Sunday. April 20. at 3.30 p.m. At a similar service at 3 p.m. on the same day at the Sacred Heart, I auriston Street, Edinburgh, Fr. Raymond Bacon, S.J., will preach.
